Supervising and mentoring students have always been the highlight for me as a university educator. Typically, doctoral students join projects that have already been defined through funding applications, yet they invariably refine these projects in alignment with their individual strengths and interests. I prioritize empowering students through their project selection, ensuring they possess a robust foundation upon which to build. This approach maximizes the educational yield.
Public speaking and performance are crucial elements in both teaching and presenting at conferences and is integral to the doctoral journey. I advocate for students to actively participate in both national and international conferences, presenting their research at various stages with my help and participation. This involvement fosters their perception of themselves as integral members of a broader intellectual community, facilitating collaboration with faculty and graduate students from other institutions.
Our doctoral community at the School of Education UI is vibrant, and it is equally crucial for students to immerse themselves in this community and attend relevant events. I emphasize the importance of students becoming proficient in the leading journals within the discipline and maintaining a comprehensive overview when selecting publication venues for themselves. Supervision is a collaboration and a professional relationship towards growth.
